Where to stay in Girolata

It means sleeping in a village with no road , between the Scandola reserve and the red cliffs of the Gulf of Porto. L'Immortelle is a small wooden cabin perched above the harbour. You get here on foot or by boat. You stay for the morning silence and the horses in the meadow .

The accommodation

The studio

The cabin, seen from the lane that climbs from the harbour.

A cabin made entirely of wood, set above the harbour. A big bed, a green bistro table, a round jute rug, and the glass doors opening onto the terrace.

In the morning, the sun comes in through the balcony. In the evening, you draw the curtains and the village goes quiet. The kitchen is made for real stays: hob, fridge, kettle, coffee machine, crockery, and everything you need to cook fish from the harbour.

The village

Girolata, a village with no road

The Gulf of Girolata seen from above: the Genoese fort on its peninsula, boats at anchor and the mountains
The Gulf of Girolata and its Genoese fort.

Girolata is a hamlet in the commune of Osani, at the far end of a gulf listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the Scandola nature reserve. No road leads here: you come by sea or along the trail. That is what makes it beautiful, and what you need to plan for.

  • 0 cars in the village
  • 1 h 30 on foot, roughly, from the Col de la Croix
  • 1983 the gulf becomes a UNESCO World Heritage Site

By sea

Shuttle boats and boat trips from Porto, Calvi, Cargèse or Sagone, from spring to autumn depending on the operator. Crossings depend on the weather: leave some leeway in your schedule.

On foot

From the Col de la Croix pass (Bocca a Croce) on the D81, the trail goes down to Tuara beach, then climbs back up towards Girolata. Bring good shoes, water, and allow 1 h 30 to 2 h of walking. The Mare e Monti trail also passes through the village.

No. You book directly with the owner, by phone or text message, with no platform fees.

What is there to do in Girolata?

Swim at the village beach, admire the Genoese fort, take a boat to the Scandola reserve, walk the coastal path, have dinner by the harbour. Or do nothing at all on the terrace, that works too.
